Prague - Czech Railways will reside for another three years in part of the building of the Ministry of Transport in the center of Prague. The railways will pay nearly 30 million crowns annually for the rent. This follows from a document from the Ministry of Transport, which the government will review on Monday. In recent years, the railways have sought a new headquarters on the market, but without success.
Czech Railways (ČD) have been using part of the building on Ludvík Svoboda Embankment since its formal establishment in 2003, and the current contract will expire at the end of June. Over the years, the rented area has gradually decreased from originally a third of the building to the current third. The railways should have the same office space of 6,800 square meters available in the next three years, but they will lose parking spaces in the courtyard of the building. Currently, the railways pay 30.4 million crowns annually for rent, and in the next three years, the rent is expected to be around 29.5 million crowns per year. This amount is based on an expert assessment.
In recent years, ČD has considered moving to a new headquarters. They therefore announced a public competition, in which they sought a 15-year rental of at least 8,600 square meters of office space. However, the tender ended in failure because the company did not receive a favorable offer.
The topic of a new headquarters for Czech Railways has been discussed for several years. One of the currently considered options for the future is the planned complex near Smíchov Railway Station. In this location, the Ministry of Transport is considering building a transport center, where Czech Railways, the Czech Railway Administration, and the Road and Motorway Directorate would also be located alongside the Ministry itself.
