Ostrava December 20 (ČTK) - The face of the center of Ostrava could completely change in the coming years. The city has completed two urban studies that offer a new perspective on the redevelopment of the Černá Louka exhibition ground, which is one of the significant central areas, and Náměstí Dr. E. Beneše could also change significantly. This was stated today by Ostrava's mayor Petr Kajnar (ČSSD). The city wants to present both studies to the citizens, who should also express their opinions. The studies include the identification of gaps and other spaces that the city could offer to private investors. According to Kajnar, the total volume of potential future investments in the city center is in the range of billions of korunas. It is primarily planned that new shops, offices, and apartments would be created in the center. There are two studies regarding the Černá Louka exhibition ground. The older one envisions a road running directly through the exhibition ground, while the newer one creates a kind of bypass around it. The new study, according to the city's chief architect Jaroslav Sedlecký, has taken into account the revival of the Slezskoostravský castle, which is now connected to the Černá Louka by a footbridge over the Ostravice River. The newer study considers that a green strip would smoothly connect to the footbridge. This would thus become a new place for relaxation. "We want to break the perception from the outside that Ostrava is a black and work-weary province," stated Sedlecký. Náměstí Dr. E. Beneše should also completely change its face, where the German House with a theater hall once stood, which was damaged at the end of World War II and was demolished for ideological reasons to some extent. The city has two variants that offer different ways of building new blocks of buildings and green spaces at the site of the square.
