Přerov – A part of the former Municipal Power Plant in Přerov has been added to the list of cultural monuments. According to heritage experts, it is a unique industrial building constructed in the spirit of geometric modernity. It was built based on a design by Prague architect Ladislav Skřivánek and was put into operation in 1920. This information was provided to ČTK by the spokesperson of the Olomouc branch of the National Heritage Institute, Vlastimil Staněk.
"The Ministry of Culture declared the operational-administrative building a cultural monument due to its urbanistic, architectural, artistic-craft, construction-typological, and historical values. The building was conceived as the central seat of the company, meant to represent both its operator, the Central Moravian Power Plant, and the city of Přerov, as one of the founding partners," said the spokesperson.
In addition to the technical equipment itself, the heritage experts emphasized the importance of high-quality architectural solutions, which are a substantial part of the monument's values. The monumental industrial building made of yellow brick has preserved many architectural details to this day, such as reliefs on the facades, the shaped division of window and door fillings with characteristic markings of the original operator, and the decorative finish of the chimney heads.
Experts also appreciate the building for its authentic appearance, in which the structure has been preserved without technological equipment. "Besides architectural qualities, the building displays indisputable urbanistic values, as it is a significant landmark of Přerov, which is part of the established panoramic views of the city, and its characteristic silhouette crowned by gables and two chimneys is an identifying feature of Přerov upon arrival at the Přerov railway station," added Staněk.
According to heritage experts, only the operational-administrative building has monument value, while the other structures in the power plant area do not possess historical, architectural, technological, or urbanistic values.
Last year, other monuments added to the list in the Olomouc region included the noble tomb of the Eichhoff family in the cemetery in Rokytnice near Přerov, the historical drive of a former mill and carpenter's workshop in Rapotín in the Šumperk region, and a set of infantry blockhouses in the cadastre of Branná and Staré Město in the Šumperk region.
