Brno – Brno will announce a public collection for organs in the planned Janáček Cultural Center on Friday. Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS) told journalists today after a council meeting. According to her, the city was inspired by the collection for organs in St. Vitus Cathedral. The conditions of the collection and the account will be published by the city on Friday. The construction of the concert hall, which will cost two billion Czech crowns and offer 1200 seats for listeners, is expected to start next summer.
The announcement of the collection was approved by the councilors. It will take place on Friday during the opening concert of the Brno Philharmonic. "We were inspired by the collection in St. Vitus Cathedral, where already 80 million crowns have been raised," Vaňková stated. According to her, people who contribute will symbolically buy a part of the organs.
The price of the organs is not yet known. If the collection covers the costs, the surplus will be used by the city for the equipment of the concert hall. If less is raised, the city will cover the rest.
The city will announce its own competition for the organs. "In collaboration with experts, we will define the requirements for the organs so that they not only meet the standards but also correspond precisely to the volume of the hall, and therefore not be too powerful or too weak," said the mayor's deputy Tomáš Koláčný (Pirates). According to him, the city will reach out to manufacturers across Europe and the entire world.
The concert hall will be located at the corner of Veselá and Besední streets. Above the garages with nearly 200 spaces, which were built in the past for around a quarter of a billion crowns, there will be a six-story building. In addition to the concert hall for 1200 listeners, it will have changing rooms, facilities, storage rooms, as well as rehearsal rooms and space for technology. The construction work also includes the construction of a connection to the Besední House.
