Brno - Brno has selected a contractor for the project documentation for the reconstruction of three major streets in the city center: Benešova, Štefánikova, and Veveří. The reconstructions will cost hundreds of millions of Czech crowns, said Richard Mrázek (ANO), the mayor's deputy, to ČTK. According to him, the design phase will last a year and a half. In subsequent years, the city will repair the streets according to priorities.
The project documentation will be for territorial decisions, building permits, and for the execution of construction work, including surveying, green inventory, geological surveys, and author supervision. The company Metroprojekt Praha is responsible for Benešova and Veveří streets, which will create documentation for both projects for nearly 13.5 million crowns. The documentation for Štefánikova will cost almost 11 million and will be prepared by the company Projekt 2010. "The timing of the actual reconstructions will depend on the budget of the city of Brno and the maintaining of necessary transport services in relation to other transport constructions in the city," said Mrázek, who is responsible for investments.
The repair of Veveří is expected to cost around 400 million crowns and concerns the section from Žerotínovo náměstí to Konečného náměstí. The renewal will affect not only the roads and tram tracks but also the underground network, such as sewage, gas pipelines, and wiring. For Štefánikova street, in the section from Pionýrská to Kartouzská street, costs are estimated at about 300 million crowns. The first urban boulevard will be created there. Tram tracks will remain in the center, but on each side, two lanes for cars will be narrowed into one, and a bike path is planned to be created. Local residents have objected to this, for example, due to the loss of parking spaces. Brno will negotiate with them further.
The reconstruction of Benešova street will cost hundreds of millions, divided into several phases. In the first phase, the area in front of the station will be modified, then the triangle where the trolleybuses turn, followed by the rest of Benešova street, including the bus station, and the last section is Malinovského náměstí.
In the past, Brno repaired Milady Horákové, Horova, and Minská streets for hundreds of millions.
