BRNO - The Brno City Hall will open an information office for residents of the city called the Urban Center. People will learn details about major transportation and urban projects there. In the center located in the premises of the Old Town Hall, interested parties will receive informational materials and, in several cases, will also be able to choose from various alternatives for specific construction projects. The city will present, for example, two options for the renovation of Dominican Square in the city center.

“Brno will have an information center that will allow people to communicate more about events in the city. The city will, in turn, better understand the opinions of citizens. There is never enough feedback,” said Mayor Richard Svoboda today to ČTK.
According to Deputy Mayor Radomír Jonáš, Brno recently won in the competition of European Cities and Regions of the Future in the category of cities of the so-called Visegrad Group, thanks to its large developmental projects. "Essential projects can only be realized with direct cooperation with the public. The Urban Center will be another place where Brno residents will obtain information and at the same time express their opinions on the development of the city," Jonáš stated.
The city has faced criticism so far for presenting major investment projects, such as the reconstruction of the railway hub, unilaterally. "The establishment of an information center may seem like a good step. People in the city should be familiar with the projects at the preparation stage, so they can express their views. However, after the experience with the train station, I am concerned that the one-sided way of informing will apply to other projects as well," said Svatopluk Bartík from the coalition Station in the Center to ČTK today.
The grand opening of the Urban Center is scheduled for March 22. "It will be accessible to the public at the end of March," said city hall spokesperson Pavel Žára.
