Brno - Brno can sell the dilapidated Jalta Palace on Dominikánské Square next to the magistrate. The proposal for the sale and the contract were approved by today's city council. The property will be purchased for 101 million crowns by Premiere Properties, which already paid a deposit of 10 million crowns in June. Inside, there should be space for shops, offices, and apartments.
A total of 44 councilors out of 55 voted in favor of the proposal. "In the negotiations about the terms of the purchase agreement, we focused on ensuring that the city has sufficient contractual guarantees that Jalta will be renovated in the foreseeable future and will be utilized. This is also reflected in the commitments for the purchasing party, which the buyer agrees to," said the mayor's deputy Richard Mrázek earlier.
The contract, for example, includes a deadline for submitting an application for the necessary renovation permit, as well as penalties for failing to meet the application submission deadline and for not completing the construction work on time. Everything should be completed within 30 months from the start of the work. However, it is currently unclear when that will begin. According to Mrázek, the purchase agreement also includes a provision that no casino or establishment providing erotic services will be created inside for a period of ten years. The managing director of Premiere Properties, Darina Ryglová, previously told ČTK that the contract was a compromise between the city and the company as the investor.
The city has already tried to sell Jalta several times but has not been successful so far. There were several interested parties last year, but they did not provide the required deposit. Therefore, the city decided in May this year to give potential buyers a last chance to submit the deposit by the end of June. If this does not happen, the city would convert the building into a town hall for the Brno-střed district.
Brno acquired Jalta at the turn of 2005 and 2006 in exchange for other lucrative plots and buildings. It was originally intended to renovate it and move some of its officials there, but due to the poor condition of the building, this did not happen.
