BRNO - Palác Jalta, which the Brno city hall wants to buy from entrepreneur Miroslav Lekeš, is in good condition according to preliminary results of a new expert report. Experts did not confirm static faults, Deputy Mayor Radomír Jonáš (ODS) told reporters today. The final results of laboratory tests, which are being conducted these days, should be known by the end of January. According to earlier information from the daily Mladá fronta Dnes, the city leadership concealed another expert report from the councilors, according to which the passage has poor foundations. However, the city management denies this. According to Jonáš, the preliminary results of the new report indicate that no major repairs of the concrete structures and foundations of Jalta will be necessary. Some opposition councilors view the new report as an attempt by the city leadership to push through the purchase of the palace. "If someone orders something, it is often to find out what is needed," councilor Pavel Březa (KSČM) reacted to the new report. The company Qualiform, which is processing the report, is used for its needs, according to the deputy mayor, by, for example, police officers or other institutions. "We continue with what the council decided," Jonáš stated. According to him, the municipality would like to make the building operational before the elections. The decision to purchase the building was made last December in a non-public vote by the city council. They want to renovate the building and relocate officials from several other places in Brno. The debate about the purchase of the palace was revived last week by the Brno Christian Democrats. They wanted Jalta to be voted on again and publicly. However, according to Jonáš, secret voting is the most democratic way. The city will give two buildings on Masarykova street, a family house on Černopolní street, and several plots of land for Jalta. The total value of these properties exceeds 96 million crowns, so Lekeš will have to pay more than 18 million. The police are investigating the exchange of Jalta based on a criminal complaint filed by the representative of the owners of the pharmacy U Červeného raka, Vojtěch Halámek. The building with the well-known pharmacy is one of the buildings that Lekeš should receive from the city. According to Mladá fronta Dnes, the pharmacy owners wanted to outbid the entrepreneur and buy the building, but the city hall refused.
