Brno - The city of Brno has received a ten-million koruna deposit from a prospective buyer who wants to purchase the dilapidated Jalta passage on Dominican Square for 101 million. This was stated today in a press release by Zuzana Taušová from the Brno City Hall. The investor made the deposit by June 30, which was the final deadline for its payment. If this had not happened, the city would have retained Jalta and converted it into an office for the Brno-střed district.
The city had high hopes for the prospective buyer who emerged at the beginning of this year. However, Mayor of Brno Petr Vokřál (ANO) did not disclose who the interested party is. "The payment of the deposit confirms serious interest. The process of preparing the sale will therefore continue. Now we await the completion of the purchase agreement so that it can be discussed and approved by the councilors in September," Vokřál stated.
If the buyer withdraws from the purchase plan, the deposit will be forfeited as a contractual penalty. Part of the preparation for the purchase agreement will involve negotiations with the investor about their intentions and the timeline for the revitalization of the building. "Brno is very interested in reviving Jalta. Now it may be possible," Vokřál added.
Brno has tried to sell Jalta in the past for around 100 million koruna, but the sales always fell through. Several interested parties emerged last year, but they ultimately failed to pay the required deposit. In May of this year, the city council decided to give the interested parties one last chance to deposit the down payment by the end of June, or else Jalta would likely become a new office for Brno-střed. Repairs are estimated to cost around 200 million koruna.
The Brno City Hall swapped Jalta at the turn of 2005 and 2006 for other lucrative lands and buildings. It originally intended to renovate it and relocate some of its officials there. However, this did not happen due to the poor condition of the building.
