Brno - The Brno club on Leitnerova Street was ceremoniously reopened today after reconstruction. The main hall and facilities have been repaired, and a new café has been established. The total amount of investment required about 680,000 CZK, as stated by the spokesperson for the Brno-střed district, Iveta Fišerová. The popular club was founded in the 1950s, with the district being its founder, and it is operated by the Cultural and Educational Center.
The so-called Leitnerka was frequented by fans of film productions, folk and rock bands, as well as various alternatives. The club's tradition included music-journalistic programs and Jiří Černý's anti-disco. Its history dates back to the 1950s when people built the club through self-help brigades. However, since then, it has not changed much and, according to the founders, it appeared outdated for today's times. "We have adapted the layout of the Leitnerka for its future use. We based it on the design by architect Szymon Rozvalka. We transformed the bar room into a modern café, Café Leitnerka, with continuous operation, expanded and adjusted the hall to achieve maximum multifunctionality and variability. The concept also considers visitors with mobility impairments, and the building is entirely accessible," said district councilor David Butula (Žít Brno).
The club's programming is also changing. Music remains a pillar, and visitors can look forward to various genres such as jazz, folk, world music, experimental music, contemporary classical, or various music projects. The new programming includes regular theater evenings, which may also be supplemented by workshops in the future. There will be listening events, screenings, or regular exhibitions focusing on Brno authors.
The club is also considering child visitors. For schools and kindergartens, as well as the public, it prepares entertaining and educational programs, children's discos, and summer day camps.
"Our goal was to restore to the Leitnerka the social credit it deserves. Not only a wide array of programs, a new café for neighborhood gatherings, but also a better appearance will surely be a sufficient attraction," Butula stated.
