Břeclav - Břeclav has opened its churches to tourists. In the city center, visitors can peek into the modern Church of St. Wenceslas, which is one of the youngest in southern Moravia. In the district of Poštorná, they can visit the Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary from the 19th century, which is one of the monuments of the Lednice-Valtice area. This was announced today by Břeclav's mayor, Dymo Piškula. "We opened the churches for the first time last year in agreement with the church. There was great interest in the tours. Therefore, we agreed to repeat the event this year," he stated. The town hall will pay 60,000 crowns for students who will act as guides in the churches until the end of September. There was particularly strong interest last year in the tour of the Poštorná church, which was once built by the noble family of the Liechtensteins. The church is hard to miss with its green roof tiles. Last year, 5,000 people visited it. Since autumn, its garden has been improved. The church also received new lighting for 600,000 crowns. "In the future, we would like to make the church tower accessible as well, from which there is a nice view of the surroundings," the mayor said. As part of the project, it will be necessary to create a quality access to the tower for one million crowns. The Church of St. Wenceslas in the city center historically contrasts with the Poštorná church. It was built in 1995 on the site of a baroque church that was destroyed during a bombing in 1944. The building is particularly striking for its very modern architecture. The churches will be open in May and September on weekends, and during the holidays, guides will provide services every day.
