Bílovice nad Svitavou - Bílovice nad Svitavou in the Brno area has expressed interest in a mill complex located on an island surrounded by the Svitava River. The municipality will purchase a 100% stake in the company Brněnská mlynárenská s.r.o, which owns the site with the mill and hydroelectric power plant, residential and non-residential spaces, land, and a weir. It aims to create a center for the public and retain the apartments. The future purchase agreement for the site was approved by the Bílovice council in June, said Mayor Miroslav Boháček to ČTK. "Currently, expert assessments are being conducted. If everything is in order and we do not discover, for example, that the company owes money elsewhere, we should approve the purchase of the mill and its financing at the September council meeting. The municipality will partially cover it from its own funds and will need to take out a loan for part of it," said Boháček.
The total value of the complex, including technology, land, and buildings, has been estimated by the owners at 38 million Czech crowns. The expert assessments commissioned by the municipality are currently around 40 million. Therefore, the mayor does not expect any future problems and considers the purchase advantageous.
"It is a flat piece of land a short distance from the center, which we have recently renovated. By the river, we want to create a pleasant environment for families with children, a leisure beach, a multifunctional playground, and we have also been approached by an investor interested in building a microbrewery and seasonal restaurant. It would be a kind of social and recreational center," said Boháček.
The mill complex also includes ten apartments that are rented out. The municipality intends to retain these. "We will take over the rental contracts as well, and we will definitely keep the apartments," said Boháček.
Building the island center will have several phases. Bílovice will now negotiate with the architect who worked on the revitalization of the town center to ensure that the character of the town remains the same. The municipality has also approached the Brno University of Technology with plans for the reconstruction of the mill, which would like to assign the project to students as a thesis topic.
