Beroun - Beroun should have a new zoning plan approved this year. The council decided to create it back in 2010, but the preparation was delayed due to a dispute over the route of the high-speed rail corridor. The public discussion of the modified zoning plan will take place on May 25, said city architect Dana Vilhelmová to ČTK.

The old zoning plan dates back to 2001 and has already been amended three times. The city utilized a subsidy from the European Union for the creation of the new plan. Feedback will come from the public discussion, which will be assessed by the councilors and may be incorporated into the proposal. "Then the zoning plan will be declared as a general measure at the next council meeting. We believe it will be this year," stated the architect.

The proposal for the new zoning plan, for example, addresses the area of the former textile factory Tiba. "There are proposed areas for housing, there are proposed mixed-use areas that should shield the highway from the housing areas. The areas of civic amenities connect to Plzeňská Street," Vilhelmová said. According to her, everything is divided into smaller segments, and the goal is to better integrate the entire space into the city with the character of the development.

The area of the textile factory, which has a private owner, was established in the first half of the 19th century. During the First Republic, over 1,400 people worked there, and products from the factory went to all corners of Europe and the USA. During World War II, operations were slowed down, and production eventually ceased entirely. The factory was nationalized after 1945 and became part of the national enterprise Tiba Dvůr Králové in 1958. However, in the 1970s, the textile industry began to decline, and the area gradually became an unused brownfield.
