Nymburk - The author of the winning design for the reconstruction of the Nymburk railway station is architect Tomáš Hanus. In the competition announced by the Railway Administration (SŽ), there were 17 concepts. The expert committee unanimously agreed on the selection of the winner. They particularly appreciated the simple, clean design and the sensitive connection of the new buildings with the historical construction, said SŽ spokesperson Nela Eberl Friebová. Construction could begin in 2027, according to the current construction plan of SŽ.
The architectural competition was announced by SŽ last October. "The contestants were to design a new ticket hall, a suitable reconstruction of the historical station, an adjacent bus station, and the surrounding public space," the spokesperson described the brief. The winning design was created by Hanus along with his colleague Jan Holub. The second place went to the studio of Architect Ondřej Tuček, and third place was taken by G. L. Architekti.
The selected design places the main area and bus station outside the actual square, along the tracks. This will allow for the creation of a continuous public space with an adjacent park. "Such a solution will ultimately ensure quick boarding, good orientation in the space, passenger safety, and thus increase the attractiveness of public transport," added Eberl Friebová.
The transformation of the Nymburk station will also connect with the planned modernization of the track from Lysá nad Labem to Nymburk, which is also expected to begin in 2027.
