Nymburk – The Railway Administration has announced an architectural competition for a new design of the station in Nymburk. The current passenger building is to be preserved, and a new facility for passengers and transport staff is expected to be created. Construction could begin in 2025, the spokesperson for the Railway Administration Nela Eberl Friebová informed CTK in a press release today.

The current station building will serve the Railway Administration. "A reconstruction of its main three-story part is expected, while the existing single-story extensions can be removed in the design. The task also includes the construction of a new station building," said Eberl Friebová. The building is to serve both passengers and transport employees, and it will include facilities such as hygiene areas and commercial spaces intended for lease.

According to the mayor of Nymburk, Tomáš Mach (Nymburk with Peace), the city's requirement for the new design of the pre-station area includes sufficient parking spaces for cars and bicycles. The public parking lot is to have 260 spaces, and there should also be additional P+R and K+R stations. "Our priority is to ensure an adequate number of parking spaces for both cars and bicycles, which is a daily need for the locals. We welcome the new appearance of the station and the modern facilities, which will present a better image upon entering the city, rather than the embarrassment it is now," said the mayor.

"The competition also includes an ideological part regarding the placement of the station underpass to the platform and the design of the pre-station areas in relation to the surrounding buildings," the spokesperson added. The competition is in two phases, and the deadline for submitting proposals is until February 13, 2023.

The transformation of Nymburk station will connect with the upcoming modernization of the line from Lysá nad Labem to Nymburk and the modernization of the entire station.
