Brno - At the Grand bus station in Brno, primarily used by RegioJet and FlixBus, restrooms will be built after many years. Until now, there were none, and an old sign directed thousands of passengers to the train station. The transport company, which owns the station, started construction in July and it is expected to be completed by the end of August. A waiting room is also planned, said CEO Miloš Havránek at a press conference today. People now have to wait outside in any weather, shielded from the rain by the roof.
"We went through difficult discussions with heritage conservationists. The cost for the restrooms and facilities for the transport company's employees is eight million crowns. It's a lot, but it's dictated by the requirements of the conservationists and architects. It is necessary to enhance public places," said Havránek. The bus station, built at the turn of the 1940s and 1950s, is a protected monument.
New benches will also be placed at the platforms and the surface will be repaired. "This is a modular construction and we would like to use the same type as soon as possible for the construction of the waiting room. We would also relocate the various stalls, which would disappear," Havránek said.
