Brno - The Brno bus station Grand on Benešova Street is set to be renovated at the turn of August and September. After more than a year and two phases of construction, it will become a more welcoming place with basic amenities. In the past, there weren’t even public restrooms, and the space was very confusing for travelers. The transport company, which leases the station from the city, faced criticism, said General Director Miloš Havránek. The complete reconstruction will cost the transport company 15 million crowns.
The station now has restrooms, and all mobile food stalls and advance ticket sales kiosks have been removed. "With the preservationists and architects, we resolved the design of two new buildings that consolidate all services for passengers. We also repaired the entire listed roof structure, the surfaces will be newly asphalted, and travelers will benefit from a new navigation system that will clarify the search for the departure location," said Havránek.
So far, buses depart not only from the platforms but also from the parking area. "Unfortunately, we have not yet reached an agreement with the preservationists on how and where to place the electronic information panel with bus departures," Havránek added.
For several years now, only services from two carriers have been operating at Grand, namely RegioJet and FlixBus, which benefit from a significantly more favorable location compared to Zvonařka. According to data from the transport company, about 150 buses arrive at the station daily, and during peak times on Fridays or Sundays, there are even a few more.
