Paris - The cause of the fire at the Paris Notre-Dame Cathedral, which broke out on Monday evening, is still unknown and the investigation is ongoing. This was announced today at a press conference directly at the damaged site by Laurent Nuñez, Deputy French Minister of the Interior. According to him, the flames have not yet been completely extinguished.
Nuñez, after more than twelve hours of work by firefighters, stated that "the fire is under control, but it is not fully extinguished."
He noted that the question now is to what extent the structure of the building has been compromised. Structural engineers and architects will assess this and decide whether firefighters can enter the cathedral to continue extinguishing the fire directly there.
The Paris prosecutor's office already announced on Monday that the fire was, according to preliminary findings, caused unintentionally.
