The best British building of the year is the gallery in Newport

London - The best British building of 2016 is the art gallery Newport Street Gallery. This was decided today by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), which awarded the prestigious Stirling Prize to the building.

The gallery was created by repurposing three old industrial buildings. It was designed by the renowned architectural firm Caruso St John, which was a finalist for the Stirling Prize in both 2000 and 2006.

"The approach of architects Caruso St John to the reconstruction is sensitive and shows a clear solution that expresses a poetic connection between the old and the new," justified the choice according to the BBC by the Royal Institute of Architects.
