Bratislava - The national football stadium for the Slovak national team will likely be built on the outskirts of the Bratislava neighborhood of Petržalka. The state is willing to contribute to its construction, land will probably be provided by the regional government, and the city is expected to participate in the preparation of the infrastructure. The involvement of private investors is also anticipated in the stadium's construction. This was agreed upon today by Finance Minister Ivan Mikloš with representatives from the Bratislava Self-Governing Region and the head of the Slovak Football Association, Ján Kováčik.

The current government, however, annulled a resolution made by the previous cabinet in mid-October that allocated nearly 70 million euros for the construction of a new football venue. The stadium was to be built on the site of the current Tehelné pole. Ministers at that time justified their decision by citing the poor state of public finances. According to Mikloš's statement today, it is possible to build the football arena at a significantly lower cost - details should be known by the end of March next year.
The head of the Bratislava Self-Governing Region, Pavol Frešo, offered land for the stadium on the outskirts of Petržalka, where there were previously considerations for building a hockey stadium. The regional assembly is expected to assess the proposal in mid-December. The head of the football association promised the involvement of foreign consultants who participated in the construction of football stadiums in other countries. According to Kováčik, the capacity of the arena should be 25,000 spectators with a possible expansion to accommodate more than 30,000 visitors.
Currently, Slovakia does not have any football stadium that meets strict international criteria. The national team plays matches at Pasienky in Bratislava and in other Slovak cities.
