Vienna/Prague - His buildings are characterized by diversity, colorfulness, and irregularity; they must include turrets, domes, mosaics, ceramic elements, irregularly scattered windows of various sizes, and diverse roofs. Friedensreich Hundertwasser first gained fame for his colorful paintings, in which he combined abstract and concrete elements into a decorative whole with a central motif of a spiral. As an architect, he was known for absolutely rejecting straight lines. He would have celebrated his eighty-second birthday on December 15.

Inspired by the Vienna Secession, Gustav Klimt, and Egon Schiele, this action artist and global activist created his unique "Hundertwasser Style". Based on his visions, around 200 smaller or larger objects were built mainly in Austria and Germany. His architectural work stands out with a complex of residential buildings in Vienna, which has become one of Vienna's tourist magnets due to its diversity and unconventionality.
Born Friedrich Stowasser on December 15, 1928, he claimed that the mission of the artist is to improve the world and make it more beautiful. He described straight lines as "the devil's tool" and argued that such a thing does not exist in nature.
Hundertwasser, "the remover of architectural gray," died on February 19, 2000, aboard the Queen Elizabeth 2, which he was taking back from New Zealand.
