Monday's The Guardian reports on a new project by Nicholas Grimshaw in Lancashire. A former landfill site will be transformed into a tropical greenhouse with a financial injection of £150 million. Grimshaw's office has extensive experience with lightly covered large areas - here. The new project will be a quarter larger than the famous Eden Project in Cornwall. Compost in a 50-meter-high silo will generate heat to warm the air in the greenhouse (Eden Project uses solid fuels for heating in the winter months). The project in Lancashire will be profitable even without visitors, thanks to waste utilization and its own heat production. Info>
