Currently, there are two extremes in the typology of buildings for the smallest. Adolf Krichanitz leans towards a cool aesthetic, while Will Alsop - perhaps because he himself has not yet matured - plays out fairy tales and shapes. Michael Hopkins combined cool hi-tech with colorful playfulness in the new children's hospital, Evelina Children's Hospital Appeal, in central London. The hospital was opened on October 31, 2005. The contract for the £60 million hospital was won by Hopkins' office as early as 1999. The old hospital was founded in Southwark in 1869 by Ferdinand de Rothschild in memory of his wife Evelina, who died very young. Hopkins' building on Lambeth Road features a large glazed atrium and terracotta-clad facades. Artifacts recalling the hospital are carefully hidden away, and in the children's rooms, there are foldable beds for parents. Info>
