The British investor Parkview, with the help of Nick Grimshaw, is transforming the former giant Battersea power station into a hotel, office, and entertainment complex, has announced that at the beginning of the new year, it will begin the demolition of the four dominant chimneys at the corners of the power station, which will be replaced by lighter copies. It is unclear whether the investor meant only the circular reinforced concrete segments, each weighing 500 tons, or also the brick-built bases. When an English businessman gives his word, it certainly means something different than when a Czech entrepreneur does. As a guarantee that it will keep its word, Parkview has deposited £10 million with the city council. England is a country that acknowledges and protects its history. In a Channel 4 poll, the power station was even voted one of the most significant historical landmarks of the United Kingdom right alongside St. Paul's Cathedral. You can read the articles of the organization that is overly concerned about its power station - here. If only we had similarly impactful organizations here. Who in the Czech public cares about Fragner's factories? And if not about functionalist factories, then at least about historical buildings in city centers?
