Brno - An exhibition showcasing the career of city architect Michal Sedláček will open on Thursday at the Urban Center next to the Old Town Hall in Brno. He has held this position since 2016, having previously worked in the USA and Russia. He participated in the design of the Walt Disney Concert Hall, a football stadium for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and skyscrapers in Kunming, China. Entry to the exhibition will be free and it will run until December 6. This was stated in a press release by the spokesperson for the architect’s office, Jana Běhalová.

The opening will take place on Thursday at 6:00 PM. Sedláček is a native of Brno but has also worked in Prague, New York, Moscow, Santa Monica, and Los Angeles. "Wherever I worked, I was always accompanied by two things: Brno and hockey, which I have played since childhood. Therefore, the exhibition also has a hockey subtitle - entering the third period. After 25 years of international experience, I now have the opportunity to influence the appearance of my hometown. This is the greatest challenge for an architect; in hockey, the third period is often the decisive part of the entire game," stated Sedláček. Under his leadership, the office is working on a new zoning plan and the preparation of a new district in the Trnitá area.

The exhibition will showcase various stages and Sedláček's projects from his beginnings in New York through his collaboration with world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, co-author of the Dancing House in Prague, to Sedláček's own projects.

Among other things, Sedláček contributed to the design of the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem. In 2008, he founded a branch of the firm Aedas in Los Angeles, which is among the ten largest architectural firms in the world. He led it until the spring of 2016 when he won a competition for the position of director of the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno. During his time at Aedas, Sedláček designed projects in America, Asia, and the Middle East, including a football stadium and a multifunctional center for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022, as well as 288-meter tall twin skyscrapers in Kunming, China, and a stadium for American football with a capacity of 75,000 spectators in Los Angeles.
