One of the most prominent figures of the Czech architectural scene Prof. Ing. akad. arch. Alena Šrámková will receive on April 17 at 6 PM in Bethlehem Chapel in Prague an award for her contribution to modern Czech architecture – the Tribute of the Czech Chamber of Architects 2007. On the occasion of this award, the Jaroslav Fragner Gallery will host a retrospective exhibition of her work, the opening of which will take place immediately after the presentation of the Tribute to ČKA. A representative catalog will also be published. Architect Šrámková is considered the "First Lady of Czech architecture." Since the 1970s, she has produced dozens of studies and completed a number of projects in a style recognized as minimalism. Her work is not swayed by fashion trends and significantly influences the formation of opinions on architecture across several generations. The first significant building that brought her into public awareness, then with her husband Jan Šrámek, was the ČKD administrative building in Prague on Můstku (1974–1983). Another dominant work was the tower for a research worker (1994), which captivated professionals with its simplicity and ordinariness and was regarded as a "manifesto" of the author's approach to architecture. The exhibition will also showcase a number of competition designs, such as the Tuzex department store (1988), the Myslbek administrative building (1993), the Hypobank study in Republic Square (1995), the Insurance Company in Brno (1996), the footbridge over the Vltava (2000), the bridge in Přerov (2003-2007), the Malting plant in Olomouc (2007), as well as other completed buildings - the meteorological station in Cheb (2001), a care home in Horažďovice (2002), and several family houses and other structures. The project for a new building of the Czech Technical University in Prague, currently under intense development, will not be missing. Alena Šrámková studied at the Technical University in Bratislava and at the AVU in Prague and passed through several project offices, including the SIAL studio, which was home to leading Czech architects, particularly in the 1960s and 1970s. Since the early 1990s, she has been a professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague and continues to design in her architectural studio Šrámková architekti.
