Znojmo - Proposals for the complete reconstruction of Louka Square in Znojmo, which emerged from an architectural and urban design competition, can now be viewed by the public starting today at an exhibition in the Minorite Monastery. Among them is the project by a group of five architects that received the highest evaluation, and the city is having it developed further. However, the city hall currently lacks the funds for the redevelopment of the area affected by war, demolitions, and normalization construction. This was stated by city hall spokeswoman Denisa Šipošová.
The competition attracted a total of 24 studios. The winning team is composed of architects Petr Hurník, Jakub Kopec, Jiří Vítek, Jaroslav Sedlák, and Ondřej Bartůšek. Their project significantly reduces the area of the square. They propose to construct a new multifunctional building called Špalíček in the middle of the area.
The winning study innovatively addresses transportation. The main traffic artery is proposed to be divided into two one-way streets around the perimeter of the new building. "The traffic solution means an overall calming down. Parking is proposed underground," said jury member Zdeněk Čižmář.
Louka Square was the last place in the city’s heritage reserve or its nearby surroundings that lacked a vision for future adjustments. The large area is a frequent entry point to the historical core, but according to the municipal office, it currently appears chaotic and unsightly. The exhibition of proposals will last until the beginning of September.
The winning study will remain on paper for the time being. The Znojmo city hall currently does not have enough funds to realize the plans. The office is now developing the proposal at least into a form of a regulatory plan that will one day serve as the basis for the commencement of construction.
