On Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at 6:00 PM, a guided tour of the exhibition Šumperák will take place at the VI PER gallery (Vítkova 2, Prague 8).
The exhibition will be conducted by the author of the exhibition concept, photographer, art historian, and curator Tomáš Pospěch.

In the autumn of 2016, exactly fifty years had passed since the first family house of type V was completed in the village near Šumperk, designed by architect Josef Vaňek. Under the commonly used name šumperák, it became a phenomenon, the most widespread type of house that soon flooded Czechoslovakia. The success of the house must be seen in the contemporary demand for individual housing and its relatively easy and inexpensive realizability through self-help using easily accessible materials.
The exhibition follows the book published last year by Tomáš Pospěch and Martina Mertová and is a certain extension of it. In several variations, it explores the interpretative possibilities of the šumperák phenomenon. It seeks to make visible the very series of transformations of the šumperák while simultaneously indicating its complexity in a model manner. Photographer and project author Tomáš Pospěch explains: “At the beginning of my interest was a simple fascination with the series. More than four and a half thousand of these houses were built. Behind them lies the same idea, plan.” The exhibition thus contemplates the question of originality and series in architecture.

Concept: Tomáš Pospěch

Collaboration: Martina Mertová, Barbora Špičáková
