Prague - Today, the exhibition of architecture Osada Baba 1932 begins, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the architecture exhibition at Baba. It reflects a significant architectural and construction achievement of the 1930s - the exhibition of new forms of housing Osada Baba 1932.

"The exhibition held in 1932 was so exceptional that it stimulated many generations of educators, students, architects, builders, and heritage professionals to further study, remember, and develop the phenomenon of Osada Baba. Today’s vernissage is evidence of this," states the mayor of Prague 6, Marie Kousalíková. The vernissage will also feature Prof. Petr Ulrich from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at ČVUT, who is also a co-author of the publication Osada Baba - plans and models.
The exhibition of the Association of Czechoslovak Works at that time, its content, and arrangement remain inspiring and unique to this day. The houses were not displayed as objects of technical or architectural offerings but as living organisms - homes of specific owners, specific users.
For this purpose, a plot was found in Na Babě in Prague 6 (formerly Prague XIX) at a location predetermined for residential construction by an existing regulatory plan. In 1929, architect, artist, urban planner, and honorary citizen of Prague 6 in memoriam Pavel Janák developed a new adjustment to the regulatory plan, which was eventually confirmed after more challenging negotiations. During this change, less deep and smaller plots were applied, which allowed for alternating placement of longitudinally designed family houses, with the houses on the southern side being maximally open with large and wide windows. This allowed not only for maximum sunlight in the apartments but also for excellent views.
Unlike similar initiatives in other countries, the construction was not financed by the state, the city, or any other organization, but was covered by private builders who were responsible for the execution and realization of the house.
Osada Baba 1932 offers a view of all 33 models of structures built at Baba. At each model, visitors will find an information panel with the names of architects and investors. The exhibition is accompanied by period photographs. "The interest in the exhibition opened in September eighty years ago was enormous, and it had to be extended for a month. I believe that this current exhibition will also meet with a good and lively response from society," says the mayor.

The exhibition will be on view 24 hours a day from 25. 9. - 30. 11. 2012 at the Chodník gallery in the Glass Palace at Freedom Square.
