Zlín - The work of Zlín architect Zdeněk Plesník is showcased starting today in an exhibition at the gallery in the Zlín Town Hall building. According to the cultural department of the city council, visitors will become acquainted with Plesník's key designs that influenced the appearance of the city, such as the villa for travelers Jiří Hanzelka and Miroslav Zikmund, composer Zdeněk Liška, the offices of Office Machines, the Transport Company, Photography, and Centroprojekt. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Plesník's birth.
Plesník designed a number of industrial buildings, public and administrative buildings, schools, and many family homes. He designed, for example, the engineering plant in Hulín, the Clothing Factory in Prostějov, the Tesla plant in Litvínov, and the observatory in Valašské Meziříčí. He passed away in 2003, as well as a radio transmitter and printer in Beijing.
"He also left behind three significant villa projects in Zlín - the reconstruction of the villa for traveler Miroslav Zikmund, the villa for his partner Jiří Hanzelka, and the villa for composer Zdeněk Liška," stated the head of the cultural department of the city council, Kateřina Pešatová.
The exhibition, which will last until the end of September, will be complemented by guided tours of Zlín's buildings and discussions. At the end of the year, people will see an exhibition in Plesník's birthplace in Valašské Meziříčí, next year in Prague and other cities.
