The international jury of the XXVI. year of the Grand Prix Architects – National Award for Architecture 2019 yesterday announced 50 nominated works. They were selected from a record number of 321 registered projects. The ceremonial announcement of the winners will take place on October 3, 2019, at the Pantheon of the National Museum in the presence of significant representatives of the professional community, state administration, and the diplomatic corps.
Selecting the holders of the large blue glass cube of the Grand Prix from the workshop of artist Bohumil Eliáš will not be easy this year either. Among the nominated works are, for example, the completion of a wooden lookout tower, footbridges in the vineyard area, a hospital chapel, a kindergarten building, the reconstruction of a water tower, and many other architecturally interesting projects. The large red cube for lifetime achievement will also be awarded again, which is exclusively granted by the Council of the Association of Architects.
The international jury of this year's edition consisted of: Oliver Sadovský from the Vallo – Sádovský studio, who received a nomination for the Mies van der Rohe Award (Slovakia), Fabrizio Barozzi from the BarozziVeiga studio, holder of the European Mies van der Rohe Award (Italy), Daniel Zarhy from the PEZ studio (Israel), Irena Fialová, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at ČVUT (Czech Republic), and Bolle Tham from the ThamVidegard studio (Sweden). Jury members may only serve once in their lifetime.
The exhibition of 50 selected projects can be viewed from October 1 throughout the month at the Faculty of Architecture of ČVUT in Prague in Dejvice or on the website.
The Association of Architects is a society that is a continuation of the architects' societies from the First Republic. In 1947, it became a founding member of the International Union of Architects UIA, in 1989 it transformed from the Union of Architects, and from 1990 to 1993 it participated in the establishment of the professional organization of the Czech Chamber of Architects. The renewal of the Czech Republic's membership in the International Union of Architects UIA occurred in 2017 under the new leadership of the Association of Architects. This marked a renewed step towards ensuring the protection of Czech architects' rights in the world. The association serves as a cultural platform for Czech architects ensuring organizational activities aimed at promoting Czech architects to a wide professional and lay audience both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
