Regional councilors approved the selection of the most suitable proposals for awarding prizes in the architectural competition for the Regional Cultural and Educational Center project. The purpose of the competition was to find the best architectural solution for buildings 14 and 15 of the former industrial complex, which, after reconstruction, would house the František Bartoš Regional Library, the Regional Gallery of Fine Arts, and the Museum of Southeast Moravia. “All of these organizations established by the region are currently located in rented spaces with conditions that are not very adequate, and therefore we tried to find a suitable architectural solution through the competition with the aim of utilizing these originally industrial buildings,” mentioned the statutory deputy governor Libor Lukáš, noting that the value of the entire project proposed by the architects is estimated at an investment of 800 million crowns. The competition conditions for the architectural competition were based on the competition regulations of the Czech Chamber of Architects and complied with national legislation. From May to June this year, 149 interested parties, mostly from the Czech Republic (108), but also from Slovakia (27), Austria (5), Germany (3), Great Britain (2), Spain (2), the Netherlands (1), and Italy (1), picked up the conditions for one of this year's largest domestic architectural competitions. A total of 36 specific proposals eventually entered the competition, from which the professional jury led by professor Miroslav Masák, composed of leading Czech experts in functionalist architecture, selected three proposals that will receive awards with the consent of the regional councilors. “The winning architectural solution fully respects the purity of Baťa's urbanism and even with the depicted modern use leans towards preserving the traditional conservative style of Zlín,” continued Libor Lukáš, adding that all assessed competition proposals will be presented to the public before the end of this year as part of an open exhibition.
