Valašské Meziříčí - Valašské Meziříčí in the Vsetín region is looking for an author for a statue for the Castle Terraces. The city is preparing to renew the area under the Žerotín Castle towards Rožnovská Bečva next year. The town hall has received a European grant for the modification and expansion of the terraces. Part of the project is also the creation of an artwork that will refer to Czech-Slovak partnership, cooperation, and history, stated the town hall spokesman Jakub Mikuš today.
This is a joint project for the Revitalization of Cultural Monuments in Wallachia and Kysuce. It includes the construction of the Husárik lookout tower in the partner city of Čadca and the renewal of the area under the Žerotín Castle in Valašské Meziříčí. "The Castle Terraces project will not only enhance the entire area but also reflect the existing paths and trails created by people. A new staircase will be created connected to the existing path, a viewing terrace, and a new walkway behind the historic building of the Granary," said Deputy Mayor Yvona Wojaczková (ANO). The estimated costs are set at 29 million crowns, with 80 percent covered by the European grant.
Part of the project also includes the creation of an artwork. "Practically since the Velvet Revolution, no statue or other artistic installation has been created in the public space of Valašské Meziříčí, which I personally perceive as a significant shortcoming. Within the framework of the Castle Terraces project, we are trying to rectify this handicap," Wojaczková stated. The city's goal is to obtain a work with a regional impact that reflects current artistic trends while also taking into account Czech-Slovak partnership, cooperation, and history.
The town hall has announced an artistic-architectural competition for the design of the artwork. Artists can submit proposals until January next year, which will be evaluated by an expert jury. "I believe that similarly to the architectural competitions for the new gymnasium of ZŠ Křižná and the Residential Building J. K. Tyla, we will receive a whole range of quality proposals from which we will be able to choose the best one for Valašské Meziříčí," Wojaczková stated.
