Polná (Jihlavsko) – The title "Building of the Year" for the Vysočina Region for 2022 was awarded by experts to five projects. They praised the conversion of the former dormitory in Velké Meziříčí into a residential building for seniors, the renovation of the chapel next to Kámen Castle, the creation of an visitor center for Bernard Brewery, and the reconstruction of the bridge near the village of Dvorce in the Jihlava region. The title from the expert jury was also awarded to the renovated building of the former school in Třešť, which also received a public award. A total of 22 new buildings and reconstructions were registered for the last edition of the competition, the results were announced today by the organizers in Polná, Jihlava region.

The aim of the competition is to recognize the best new buildings and reconstructions in the Vysočina Region; this year marked its 21st edition. According to the organizers, investors and direct participants in construction could submit projects that were approved or in trial operation from January 2021 to the end of this April.

Regarding the school in Třešť, experts appreciated that the repairs enhanced the significance of the building as a landmark positively influencing the square. The three-story historic building in T. G. Masaryk Square was vacated by a secondary school due to a decline in students and was empty for about ten years. According to the city council, the repaired building will serve as a space for the elementary art school, with commercial spaces developed on its ground floor.

In Velké Meziříčí, the expert jury praised the cultivated conversion of the former secondary school dormitory into small apartments for seniors with an outdoor relaxation zone. The conversion was handled by the city. At the renovated Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows next to Kámen Castle in the Pelhřimov region, they highlighted the sensitive preservation of the historical structure and the creation of a quality interior. The castle and chapel are managed by the region.

The visitor center of the Family Brewery Bernard in Humpolec scored points thanks to transferring the original atmosphere of the brewery into a modern format. During its construction, the former factory chimney in the brewery area was converted into an observation tower. The bridge on regional road 602 near the village of Dvorce received recognition for its demanding reconstruction in complicated terrain. The bridge is on the road between Jihlava and Pelhřimov, spanning the valley through which the Jihlava River flows and a railway line runs.

Four individual awards and six honorable mentions were also granted.
