The construction of the year in the Central Bohemian Region is the rehabilitation pavilion of Benešov Hospital

Kutná Hora – The main prize in the 2021 Building of the Year competition for the Central Bohemian Region was awarded to the rehabilitation pavilion, which has been serving patients of the Benešov hospital since last autumn. The Governor's Award for the greatest contribution to the region went to the restoration of the Saint Bartholomew Church complex in Kolín, and the public award to the intersection at U Topolu in Benešov, the organizers informed ČTK today.

The construction of the complex rehabilitation center at the Benešov hospital cost 230 million CZK. It brought together outpatient services and both inpatient acute and subsequent rehabilitation departments under one roof. An interesting feature is the light well that runs through the interior of the pavilion and is intended to create the impression of walking through a canyon in the rocks.

The new building was praised for its thoughtfully and soberly chosen building materials, including exterior and interior details that, according to the evaluation, enhance the expertly designed architectural composition of the house. "The unprecedented generosity of the spatial solution, artistically thought-out proportions of the façades, and good layout and building solutions allow to elevate the spirit and mood of users to extraordinary experiences. The house provides rehabilitation for both body and spirit in an inspiring environment of modern architecture," the organizers stated.

The expert jury also awarded additional prizes. The Governor's Award for an individual in construction was given to Bořivoj Kačena for the human and managerial qualities demonstrated in leading companies that are building an important part of the transport infrastructure of the Central Bohemian Region. The special award for structural design was given to the footbridge over the Vltava River in Lužec nad Vltavou, sustainable community development received recognition for the construction modifications of the swimming pool in Beroun, and support for the development of sports was awarded for the running athletic tunnel in Benešov.
