Today, the Architectural Competition for the design of the Sport Complex Blanice in Vodňany was announced.
The subject of the competition is the development of an architectural proposal for the solution of the Sport Complex Blanice (hereinafter referred to as SAB). The construction site is located in the Blanice area in the northern part of the city. The organizer's intention is primarily to renovate and expand the existing multipurpose building of a restaurant, changing rooms, and accommodation (hereinafter referred to as the “building”). The organizer expects proposals and suggestions for using the site for the establishment of a modern center for leisure activities (hereinafter referred to as “broader relationships”) within the framework of addressing broader relationships. Details are provided in the document P.01 Competition Assignment.
For the “building,” emphasis will be placed on the overall architectural solution for the renovation and extension of the existing structure concerning the respect for the assumed cost levels and particularly on energetically and operationally maximally efficient and economical solutions. For broader relationships, the emphasis will be on the overall urban-planning and architectural solution of the complex and suggestions for its further use.
Estimated costs are 9.7 million CZK including VAT.

Vodňany, nationally better known for its chicken than as a “city of fishing tradition,” wants to have a clear direction. They started by developing a strategic development plan looking ahead to the next 10 years, which is a living document that truly determines the direction of development for them. This is focused on three priorities – SPORT, CULTURE, and SUPPORT FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP. Among the 94 specific projects of the strategic plan, we find four main investment projects. The city has decided to approach them as responsibly as possible – through architectural competitions:

1. Revitalize the Škorna area (project S.2.2)
In 2011, the area of the former pond and neglected swimming pool was entered into the Peter Parléř Award. From the 7 submitted projects, the council chose the solution for a natural swimming pool.
2. Create a multifunctional cultural space from the MěKS (K.2.1)
In 2012, an architectural competition took place for the revitalization of the cultural center, which received a total of 35 proposals, and the winning solution involves transforming the monofunctional cinema into a universal black box with a library and café.
3. Implement revitalization of the forest park behind the Secondary Fisheries School (S.4.4)
Last summer, we co-organized an architectural-sculptural workshop re:vodňany 2012 in Zátiší. The aim of this workshop was to initiate the long-term restoration and remind of the original glory of the forest park by creating several original works. Currently, negotiations are ongoing with the Proměny Foundation about announcing an architectural competition for the overall area.
4. Renovate the Blanice area into a modern comprehensive sports facility (S.2.1)
At the dawn of 2013, we are now approaching the announcement of a competition for a proposal for the Sport Complex Blanice. The swimming pool, cultural center, and forest park are longer-term projects. In contrast, the Blanice complex now represents a clear priority, as funding for its renovation has already been approved in the 2013 budget.

The vision of the strategic plan is: We build on ourselves. Now we want to build on you – on the solution that will appear as the best in the competition.
