Beroun – The winners of the architectural competition for the new design of Wagner Square in Beroun are Richard Ott, Eliška Stoulilová, and Tereza Šimečková. The square is to be conceived as a triangle with a park and a playground by the river, a new café in front of the building of Česká pojišťovna, and trees on Okružní Street to shield the traffic from the center. The mayor, Soňa Chalupová (ODS), said this to journalists today.
Based on the study, a more detailed project documentation should be created. According to the mayor, the city hall does not have to adhere solely to the winning design; it can also select some elements from unsuccessful projects and make a sort of compilation.
It is not yet known when construction will begin. "This is a study; the realization will be highly dependent on the budget and the financial status of the city," Chalupová stated. She estimates the costs at 70 million crowns, and according to Deputy Mayor Michal Mišina (for ANO), it cannot be assumed that funding for the project will be possible to obtain.
Unsightly remnants of the past, such as poor paving or monolithic flower pots, should disappear from the square, and traffic is also expected to be addressed differently. The architects proposed a new roundabout at the intersection of Talichova and Okružní Streets. In the center of the main area, a water feature in the form of jets will create a wet area for children to play in the summer days.
Ten proposals were submitted to the competition, and two participants lodged objections against the jury's procedure. The contracting authority will now address them. After their resolution, the competition proposals will be published on the city's website, and an exhibition is planned in the city library during the summer holidays.
