The Czech Chamber of Architects announced another edition of its traditional event, the Showcase of Diploma Theses, in May. Its goal is primarily to compare the level of quality of education at universities focused on architecture in the Czech Republic. For the seventeenth year, the Chamber contributes to raising the standards of architectural education and promoting architecture to the public through this prestigious competition.

The competition includes successfully defended diploma theses of graduates from architectural fields at universities in the academic year 2015/2016. Graduates of universities who successfully defend their diploma thesis during the respective period at one of the universities and faculties providing architectural education in an accredited Master's study program focused on architecture, urbanism, or landscape architecture, and listed by the Czech Chamber of Architects in the list of schools with recognized and related education can participate in the showcase.

Applications for this year's Showcase of Diploma Theses can be submitted until July 20, 2016. A clearly filled out and signed application must be submitted to the Chamber's Office in Prague or Brno, either in person, by mail, or scanned and sent via email.

This year, the jury will again consist of leading experts not only from the ranks of authorized architects. Among them are architects Lucie Vogelová and Jaroslav Zima, designer Jan Pavézka, landscape architect Petr Velička, and theorist Hynek Látal.

The total amount of prizes for the awarded will reach 50,000 CZK (1st prize 25,000 CZK, 2nd prize 15,000 CZK, and 3rd prize 10,000 CZK). The graduates will also take home additional attractive prizes. The winner will also receive the Grand Prize from Schindler, which is a professional trip to the company's headquarters in Switzerland. As every year, a Special Prize from the Czech Centers will also be awarded. This will provide the winner of the competition with a one-week residency at one of the European Czech Centers. A Special Prize from Cegra will also be awarded, providing the winner with a license to use ArchiCAD software.
