Prague – The Prague City Hall has announced a tender for the reconstruction of the currently empty Spirála Theatre at the Exhibition Grounds. The estimated value of the contract is 167.4 million crowns excluding VAT and includes two parts, the first for construction work and the second for outfitting with theatre technology. This was reported by ČTK based on the public procurement bulletin. The theatre has been deteriorating since the floods in 2002.
The construction work is expected to cost 127.4 million crowns excluding tax, with the rest allocated for technology. According to previous information, a multifunctional hall for music and theatrical performances, as well as conferences and other social events, is to be created in the theatre. During the reconstruction, a second hall is to be established in the basement of the building, which currently dates back to 1991.
The municipal company Výstaviště Praha, which manages the area, also plans to reconstruct the Křižík Pavilions, with work already started in one of them. Some time ago, the City Hall also announced a public contract with an estimated value of nearly two billion crowns for the completion of the left wing and reconstruction of the Industrial Palace, which burned down more than ten years ago.
Last year, the city invested more than 130 million crowns in the area. New sports facilities were created in the lower part, and the area has been connected to Stromovka. Renovated restaurants were also opened, a gastro pavilion was established, and the first part of the renovation of the Křižík Fountain was completed.
The Exhibition Grounds were built in 1891 on the occasion of the Jubilee Land Exhibition. The area suffered significant damage from the floods in 2002, and in 2008 the left wing of the Industrial Palace burned down. The company Výstaviště Praha was established in 2015 after the city terminated the lease agreement with the Incheba company.
