Plzeň - High school students can design footwear inspired by the Baroque period or a ceramic bowl conceived as a ritual vessel or a sculpture in an art competition announced by the Institute of Art and Design (ÚUD) at the University of West Bohemia in Plzeň. The Teendesign competition is being held for the seventh time, and participants must submit their work by the end of October, informed Lenka Kodýtková, the deputy director of ÚUD, to ČTK.
"One of the goals of the competition is to search for new talents not only at art high schools but also at other types of secondary and higher vocational schools. The main criterion for ÚUD when accepting new students is their talent, creativity, and inventiveness, not the type of secondary school they come from," she noted.
This year, it is possible to compete in six categories - design, fashion design, ceramic design, computer game, digital photography, and comic. "Participants in the design category will have to think about the specific properties of snow, as they need to design a means for individual movement on snow. Comic enthusiasts have the opportunity to humorously and originally depict the theme How I Came into the World through storytelling in images," Kodýtková added. In the digital photography category, they must provide a series of photos on the theme Portrait of My Generation. Candidates for victory in the computer game category are to design the visual representation, environment, and characters of their own computer game.
The author of the best work in each category will receive a free course at the ArtCamp 2012 summer school of their choice as a reward. Details about the competition can be found on the website www.uud.zcu.cz.
