Prague - Nine applicants have registered for the competition to create the Czech pavilion for the World Expo 2015 in Milan, five of whom are from abroad. Jiří Potužník, the general commissioner of the Czech participation in the exhibition, told ČTK today. The tender was repeated because no one applied in September. According to the tender documents, the value of the contract is 60 million crowns, and the commission will select the winning proposal on December 13.
The office of the general commissioner required a comprehensive solution for the Czech participation in the tender. This includes the creation and construction of the pavilion, architectural concept, project documentation, obtaining permits for the creation of the pavilion, realization of the internal exhibition, operation, and maintenance of the pavilion. The result should be a temporary structure that will be dismantled after the Expo ends.
The exhibition of the pavilion should include a thematic Laboratory of Life, a national section, multimedia projection, and a restaurant. The interior should utilize the results of Czech science and be in line with the theme of the World Expo, which is “Food for the Planet, Energy for Life”.
Preparations for the Czech participation in the exhibition are delayed. Nevertheless, according to earlier government materials, the office of the general commissioner is convinced that the project can be completed on time despite the delay.
The budget for the event is expected to be between 180 and 210 million crowns, of which 70 million will come from the previous World Expo in Shanghai, 60 million from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' resources. The rest will be financed by other partners or the private sector. The former government of Petr Nečas (ODS) approved participation in the next World Expo, under the condition that the private sector would be involved in co-financing for the first time.
