Moravské Budějovice – Moravské Budějovice in the Třebíč region will publish the results of the first architectural competition they organized in a few weeks. It addresses the construction modifications of the Husova Kindergarten with the aim of expanding its capacity by one class. There are 24 proposals in the competition. Jan Švaříček, the deputy mayor of the approximately seven-thousand-strong town, told ČTK.

The Moravské Budějovice kindergarten is intended for 235 children and has classes in three buildings. According to Švaříček, the facility on Husova Street, which has two classes, is in the worst technical condition. When the town began to address its reconstruction, it became apparent that it could not be done without a fundamental modification. "We actually found out that if we were to diligently reconstruct the kindergarten, there would be nothing left of it, only the perimeter walls," said Švaříček.

According to him, school buildings are the most important public spaces in the town, as they shape children's values, including aesthetic ones. For this reason, the town wanted a quality architectural proposal. "Originally, we thought that we would only reach out to maybe three (architectural) studios. But we ran into the public procurement law, because the project itself is so expensive that we couldn't assign it to just three, but we had to go the open route. And if you want to reach out to architects in an open manner and prioritize quality over price, the only way is through an architectural competition," explained Švaříček. The city will distribute 450,000 crowns in prizes for the competition.

The anticipated costs for the construction are 48 million crowns. Architects could address the task in their proposals either through new construction or renovation of the building. "Two-thirds of the proposals worked with the current layout, where most of them ended up demolishing it anyway, leaving a few functionally interesting walls," added Švaříček. The winner of the competition will develop project documentation within a year. Construction is expected to start in 2026.

The kindergarten was created by combining two formerly private villas. According to Švaříček, its layout has not been suitable for the operation of a kindergarten from the beginning.
