The 7th edition of the Young Architect Award competition gives a chance to students and young architects under 33 to showcase their talent and provoke discussion on sustainable environmental development. The theme of this year's assignment is "New Life for Old Places." The competition is under the patronage of Ladislav Lábus, the dean of the Faculty of Architecture at Czech Technical University in Prague. Students can submit their work until July 2, 2015. The results of the competition will be announced at the 26th International Building Fair FOR ARCH.
This year's theme offers competitors many possibilities on how to approach their project. “New Life for Old Places” includes abandoned, neglected, unused, and even forgotten places. There are numerous ways to work with such environments. It is up to the competitors to deal with the assignment as they see fit. The resulting works will thus offer various perspectives on the new use of old places and objects in the context of the landscape, rural settlements, and cities.
“The competition showcase of works by young architects and architecture students not only helps young architects and schools but also the public. The public benefit assignment offers comparison, visibility, and potentially recognition of the interest in the live, everyday lived, and perhaps therefore already overlooked and obscured problems of architecture and the environment in which we live,” says Ladislav Lábus, the patron of the competition.
