Fight for the prizes in the young architects competition – deadline July 2, 2015

Are you a student or architect under 33 years old? Take the opportunity and submit your study on the topic of New Life for Old Places to the 7th edition of the Young Architect Award competition. Join the battle for financial and material prizes and gain space to present your work in professional titles. A jury composed of prominent Czech architects will evaluate the submitted works. The public will be introduced to the work as part of a traveling exhibition.

New Life for Old Places
Sustainable environment development

Abandoned, neglected, unused, forgotten… all of these can be reused (e.g.: reconstruction, conversion, revitalization, adaptation, new constructions – enhancing the environment, abandoned and unused buildings, gaps).

Recommended Locations for Solutions
The selection of locations that are relevant to the topic has been suggested by representatives of the cities where faculties teaching architecture are located.
Participants can choose from the recommended locations or come up with an original proposal for a problematic location of their choice within the theme of the competition.

Ostrava

• Solution for the remediation of the area of the former chemical plant in Ostrava-Mariánské Hory, north of the Rudná communication, including the land of the former lagoons, proposal for their new use including a new urban structure

• Solution for the remediation of the areas of former chemical plants in Ostrava-Hrušov, solution for new uses and new urban structures

• Solution for the remediation of the previously flooded area and its reconstruction into an industrial zone in Ostrava-Hrušov

Prague

• The former power plant and heating plant in Holešovice – location in the railway triangle, street Za elektrárnou

• Perfa Holešovice

• Grain silos on the Holešovice waterfront (mouth of the V háji street)

• Public warehouses building - 4-story warehouse building by architect F. Bartoš on the eastern arm of Holešovice port

• Sugar factory area on Modřany waterfront

• Ice warehouse in Bráník

• Dynamite factory in the valley of the Čimický stream

• Masaryk Railway Station

• Žižkov Railway Station building
  

Brno

• Map of brownfields in the city of Brno - for the selection of locations, the search and filtering options can be utilized. More detailed information, e.g., selections of individual BF locations, can be found in the "Supplementary Information" tab, where there are schemas, graphs, and summaries.

• Revitalization of Brno passages

• As a comprehensive theme or a more detailed view of individual buildings - the JALTA building, the closed city passage Nádražní – Josefská, cultivation of the TYPOS passage, and further proposals for the use of Czech Television buildings between Běhounská and Jezuitská streets including the restoration of the passage after the television moves to a new studio outside the center of Brno.

• Warehouse Malá Amerika

• Not to place emphasis on the surroundings, with the idea that the building will have cultural use, but directly on the possibilities of using the building and related necessary interventions.

• Utilization, supplementation, enhancement of Moravian Square in the part where the German House used to stand

• Proposals from an urban development perspective, taking into account the history of the site.
