Červený Kostelec

The city of Červený Kostelec has announced a limited architectural competition, the subject of which is the development of a study for a new gymnasium in the area behind the Václav Hejna Elementary School (i.e., between the Elementary School and the Otto Wichterle Secondary School). The primary goal of the competition is to find an appropriate architectural form for the public building of the gymnasium and to propose a study for this new construction.

Architects can submit applications for the competition until May 29. They will be required to submit, among other things, a portfolio of their previously developed projects, and based on that, a professional jury will select the 5 best candidates who will then focus directly on the design of the future building. They will have time for its development until mid-summer.

"The gymnasium will be one of the most significant investments in recent years. Moreover, it will be located in one of the most representative places in our city. That is precisely why we chose the form of the competition, from which we expect a result that will combine the best that contemporary architecture has to offer with the economic requirements for construction and the cost-effectiveness of subsequent operation. The composition of the jury also reflects this," characterizes the competition Mayor Ing. Rostislav Petrák.

In addition to the mayor, the jury will include the city architect Ing. arch. Lukáš Ehl, co-author of the winning design for the fire station and the technical services facilities in the municipality of Líbeznice, which is known for its high-quality contemporary architecture. In the independent part, there will be Ing. arch. Jan Hájek, who is the author of the Líbeznice gymnasium, Ing. arch. Štěpán Valouch, author of the multifunctional hall with an outdoor sports facility in Prague - Suchdol, and Ing. arch. Milan Vít, whose sports hall in Kuřim is already serving the public. The substitutes for the jury will be Deputy Mayor Jiří Regner, head of the city development department Ing. Pavel Matyska, and Ing. arch. Mária Maninová.

"Gyms and sports halls are buildings with very specific functional uses. Coming up with really quality operational solutions is challenging. That is why the city sports commission and members of associations were also involved in the preparation of the materials. At the same time, we wanted experts who already have their own experience with similar designs to sit on the jury. And I am very pleased that this was successful and all those approached accepted their roles," states city architect Ing. arch. Lukáš Ehl.

The results of the competition should be known in August of this year, followed by the preparation of a more detailed study. This will then serve as a basis for the classic procurement procedure for further design phases, in which the author of the proposal will collaborate based on a contract.
