The ARCH Award is a prestigious architecture award granted since 1998 by the professional magazine ARCH. The publisher of the ARCH magazine is EUROSTAV publishing house, which is also the announcer and organizer of the competition. The aim of the award is to highlight remarkable works from the domestic architectural scene and thus contribute to its further cultivation. The ARCH Award has a high professional credit, ensured by the participation of top European architects in the jury. Unlike other architectural competitions, it is not possible to apply for the ARCH Award. Nominations for the ARCH Award are made annually by the editorial board of the magazine, composed of significant figures from the Slovak and Central European architectural scene. The awarding of the ARCH Award 2007 was decided by an international jury consisting of Dietmar Eberle (Austria), Boris Hrbáň (Slovakia), Henrieta Moravčíková (editor-in-chief of the ARCH magazine), Robert Špaček (Slovakia), Zdeněk Zavřel (Czech Republic) on September 20, 2007. The jury evaluated nine architectural works, which were nominated for this year's award by the magazine's editorial board. These were: Barrier-free office in Zvolen (Martin Repický); Cottage in Senec (Ján Studený); Extension of a family house in Bratislava (Ilja Skoček, Jr.); Residential buildings Karloveské rameno in Bratislava (Karol Stassel, Juraj Šujan); Residential house Octopus Habitat in Bratislava (Peter Sticzay-Gromski); Residential complex Rozadol in Bratislava (Peter Moravčík, Juraj Šujan); Row family houses Pekné bývanie in Bratislava-Rača (Matúš Vallo, Oliver Sadovský); Family house Pátrium in Ivanka pri Bratislave (Ivan Matušík) and Family house in Bratislava-Rusovciach (Maroš Fečík). The award was ceremoniously presented on November 7, 2007, in the Design factory premises in Bratislava.
From the jury's discussion: “The Residential Complex Rozadol managed to create added value in relation to the city on the utilized area. I would say that from the perspective of the relationship between public and private and in terms of added value in relation to the city, it is a very exceptional project, not only in Slovakia but also in Europe. One does not find many projects at this level where integrated housing, shops, offices, a swimming pool, various categories of housing (which is also important) are present. It very little represents the characteristic mixing of functions in the city that creates its culture. These are certain rules, conventions, and knowledge of how these things can work together and support each other. This is a significant advancement, not only in Slovakia. This is on an international level.” (Dietmar Eberle, Austrian architect, jury member)
“I really liked that they simply utilized a certain kind of old scheme, and at the same time, in specific conditions, found a specific solution. They used an old good recipe to achieve a new quality.” (Zdeněk Zavřel, Czech architect, jury member)
