Krnov - The Krnov City Hall has announced an architectural competition that aims to address the appearance and use of public space around several sports facilities between Petrovická Street and the Smetanový Circuit. Architects are to propose, for example, how to meaningfully connect sports facilities, including an athletic stadium, an ice hockey stadium, and football fields. The modifications to the areas are expected to cost around 35 million crowns. This was announced today by the city's spokesperson, Dita Círová.
The area also includes a gymnasium, tennis courts, a volleyball court, a skate park, a workout area, as well as privately owned sports facilities such as a tennis hall, tennis courts, and bowling. "The competition touches on three main themes. The first is the revitalization and connection of public spaces around the sports facilities into one whole and to make it as accessible to the public as possible," said the spokesperson.
Architects are also tasked with finding a balance of interests in this area to accommodate both professional athletes and, for example, people out for a walk. Another task for the competition participants, according to the spokesperson, will be the modifications of Petrovická Street, which will gain significance after the construction of new municipal baths in the swimming pool area.
"The most important point of the brief is to create attractive public spaces between the large organized sports facilities, where children and adults will enjoy spending their free time," stated Mayor Tomáš Hradil (Krnovští patrioti). Architects must submit requests to participate by September 25 in the form of a portfolio. "Subsequently, a jury will convene, which will select five architectural offices from the applicants and invite them to develop proposals. The deadline for submission of these proposals is set for December 4," added Klára Hazuchová, head of the public procurement department.
After evaluating the competition, the city will approach the winner with an offer to develop the project documentation. The architectural competition will cost the city 1.2 million crowns.
