Kladno - Kladno will announce an architectural competition in April for the reconstruction of the bus terminal. This is another of the projects aimed at improving the appearance of the city center and revitalizing it. This was reported by the spokesperson of the Kladno town hall, Lenka Růžková.
The costs of the terminal modifications are not yet clear, but city representatives have previously stated that they will try to obtain subsidies for the construction. Kladno has also recently announced a competition for the modification of the main pedestrian zone T.G.M.
The new terminal should allow for the combination of several types of transportation and increase the comfort and safety of passengers. There will be parking lots and bike storage. It is expected to start serving passengers in 2018.
"Our aim is to extensively transform the currently overused and neglected area of the existing 'bus station' into a fully-fledged, multifunctional urban space. The primary goal is to improve the quality of this public space," stated the city development councilor Ondřej Rys (Volba pro Kladno).
According to the spokesperson, the modernization of the area should create not only a new terminal but also a cohesive functional space that includes shops, offices, and apartments. "In this way, we will transform this neglected space into a pulsating, vibrant place that will serve as a valuable showcase for the city," Růžková added.
The bus station was built in Kladno in the 1970s for the needs of the Poldi steelworks in the place of a former park. Its capacity is currently oversized for present use, and passengers do not have sufficient comfort here. Nearby is the Central Bohemian Scientific Library and the city theater, which is why, according to Rys, it should become an integral part of the city center, rather than functioning as a periphery.
