Vrchlického Gardens

Park, as part of the historic green ring that arose in place of the fortifications demolished after the model of the city of Vienna. At the beginning of the collaboration, there was an ambition to build on the original cultural tradition of Klatovy while also seeking answers to the current demands of public urban space.


The new old promenade - a significant axis runs through the park and continues across the street into the neighboring gardens. The restoration of the four-axial linden alley required the relocation of an electric cable. Vrchlického and Hostašovy gardens were connected across the street by a wide pedestrian crossing along the axis of the promenade, which is raised to the level of the sidewalk. The extent of the pavement made of colored mosaic was significantly expanded due to the need to supplement the missing paths. The square ornament of the pavement from the decayed marble mosaic was transferred to new pavement primarily made of granite. The original mosaic was sorted and partially returned. Around Okrouhlice, it is thus possible to see a plateau made of original marble. 

The new old garden terrace - a geometric composition with the monument of Jan Krejčí as its dominant feature is interpreted without decorations. The traditionally rich floral decoration of the garden terrace was transferred to a single strip at the edge, dedicated to the phenomenon of Klatovy carnations. The garden terrace is separated from the bustle of the promenade by a low terrace with illuminated steps and trimmed shrubs. The terrace made of basalt pavement can serve as a stage. The shrub layer was drastically reduced with regard to the longitudinal transparency of the circular park.
