Our first joint project with this client was housing in Modřany, a modern family house where the main motto was to connect living with the garden, "outdoor living," effectively a flat in the garden, and we tailored everything to that. It turned out very well, and we felt a desire to continue working together. Ultimately, the proof is in the many articles in the media with reader responses.
This time it was about creating the best possible place for living in the city. Such an apartment – a refuge – when you want to be alone for a while or have a rich evening program in the center and want to stay in the city overnight. Barrandov is therefore a somewhat different example of cozy living, in the apartment building Barrandovské zahrady. It is urban living with a beautiful view of the river, with a large designer garden on the slope of Barrandov rock, an apartment with large windows open to the sun during the day and inviting you to sit on the terrace at night with a view of the river lights and the panorama of the night metropolis. The apartment is pleasantly spacious, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a large glass living room with a terrace. Because we all love to travel a lot, wandering around the world, we felt a great need to capture snippets of memories from our travels, flashes of atmospheres, landscapes, and cultures that we have experienced and enjoy, in short, to immerse our living space even more in a travel-inspired theme. After all, that is our life inspiration too.
The apartment in Barrandovské zahrady is therefore a mosaic of our travels – a bit ethnic, a bit Japanese and wabi-sabi, and also a bit laid back from New Zealand. It beautifully managed to connect distant and seemingly incongruous worlds into a single original atmosphere of cozy living. As a whole, it remains a modern urban apartment, which in our interpretation means timeless design and a story full of emotions.
The result is an interior with toned stucco on the walls, bleached wood on the floor, favorite designer furniture pieces from Vitra, pleasantly harmonizing with a teak table and hanging lamps made of split bamboo, all gently and gradually complemented by smaller decorative pieces like candle holders, vases, or wooden bowls collected from travels around the world. As in all designs and realizations of Atelier Kunc Architects, a line of original design was also used here, involving the whole team, led by Michal Kunc and Jana Šandallová. Many items were designed and realized as atypical, originals specifically for this space. The main artistic element is a "vintage" kitchen box, created from several materials (travertine, marble), lacquered surfaces, or lighting lines. We love art and original pieces, and that is something we resonate with together.
